At last months Port commission meeting, Jeff Bishop, CEO of the International Port of Coos Bay stated that “in the spirit of full disclosure” next month he would announced a big change in a $25 million Weyco land option that many citizens have criticized and even sent complaints to the Oregon Attorney Generals office asking for an investigation. Today the Port issued its agenda for the upcoming meeting next week and it appears the Weyco deal has been terminated.
C. Termination of the Weyerhaeuser Land Option and Amendment of the Jordan Cove Option
In January, a clearly angry Bishop defended the Weyco deal at the regular Port commission meeting.
There is still something going on with this land deal so you might want to attend the next scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2011 immediately before the Regular Commission Meeting, in the Port’s Commission Chambers, located at 125 Central Avenue, Suite 230, Coos Bay.
Additionally, immediately after the meeting there will be another public hearing on EXEMPTION FROM THE COMPETITIVE BIDDING REQUIREMENT TO SOLICIT DESIGN-BUILD PROPOSALS FOR THE COOS BAY RAIL LINK. This may have something to do with one of the action items that will be decided upon during the earlier regular meeting – “B. Ratify Declaration of Emergency Related to Rail Road Emergency Repair Contracts and Resolution No. 10/11 – 4 Ratifying the Emergency Declaration by Port Staff for Emergency Repairs to the Coos Bay Rail Line”
Not sure what this all means except that by declaring the Coos Bay Rail Line a disaster may allow the Port to pick any contractor they want without waiting on a competitive bid process, presumably to expedite the completion of the line.
I missed magnum opus – probably because I am a poor monosyllabic county boy confused by polysyllabic words. One of your other readers asked me what it meant. They thought it had to do with bottling wine. I had no idea that you were a writer / artistic. Good luck on the microgrid. Don’t give away the store or at a minimum the Rights In Data to some overzealous buyer to be successful.
In addition to a ballot initiative it would be good to start a letter writing campaign to the new governor demanding a change of guard or at least some oversight
I too miss the daily content blog. Apparently nobody has read and favorably responded to Mr. Bishop’s resume as he is still here. Yes Mr. Bishop, there was an emergency wih tunnels unsafe WHEN there was a CORP railroad from Noti to Coquille. When the CORP railroad ceased operation and doing business here, the emergency no longer existed. Unsafe tunnel entrances could have been blocked wih warning signs posted. Another my shit don’t stink appointed not elected port commissioner chairman put the citizens last move. Have patience. The grass roots efforts to return the port to the people of Coos Bay and North Bend who are the primary $4 millionn annual taxpaying owners of that port in which they have no voice is commencing. Hopfully there will be a ballot measure within a year.
yes, I have been busy… working on two microgrid proposals one on the opposite side of the continent and a magnum opus on decentralization of EVERYTHING. Hoping to release snippets of the opus on the blog in the next few days
What are you up to, your posts are few and far between?
Regarding the declaration that the railroad is a disaster (yes, but not the way they mean) we will see if West Coast Contractors gets all the work
