Keith takes issue with the claims by some southerners the Civil War was over taxation, when in fact it was over slavery. Growing up in Northern California I remember my sixth grade teacher, she was from Missouri (she pronounced it mssourah), explaining how she was taught the war had nothing to do with slavery but she had to abide by California’s curriculum. Teachers raised in the south have a different understanding of the Civil War and she would never have considered what the south did as treason.
You have Olbermann wrong, fred, he doesn’t dislike Republicans at all, John Dean is one of his favorite guests, for example. It is the current crop of whacky and hypocritical neo-conservative tea party types he has a problem with.
“Civil” as in a war between the states over the civil rights of certain individuals. Individuals who chose to abolish slavery and other individuals who chose to continue slavery. Anybody been there and done that knows there is nothing civil about any war. The next time that Olberman and his over the edge “progressive” pals trash Repuiblicans as a group, please remind him that the Republicans of 1860, led by Abraham Lincoln got this one right.
