US Chamber of Commerce holding seminars on how to outsource jobs to foreign countries and taking donations from foreign countries. Perhaps they should take the US out of their name.
When my oldest son, a Marine, left for war and crossed the border from Kuwait into Iraq in March 2003 I started writing my conscience. After two tours that young combat veteran’s mother is now an ardent peace activist and advocate for social, environmental and economic justice.
MGx has matured since those early vents and ramblings and now covers relevant and important local and regional matters in addition to national and global affairs.
Appears the US, and National Chambers are in lock step with the local Chambers. There is a lot more behind the curtain and tax rebates than we know. Could it be instead of out-sourcing the jobs, they will be doing in-sourcing of the jobs by bringing in out of state, or country employees, not local hire?
These are strange birds that are getting together, or is it “birds of a feather flock together”
The Chamber of Commerce is listed under the City of Coos Bay directory, because they are funded with your tax dollars. Just like South Coast Development Council SCDC. The City just bought the Chamber a new visitor center in Coos Bay for their offices.
The City of Coos Bay had only one dissenting vote for the ORC tax abatement, and now the Chamber is going to negotiate/broker a deal with our county elected representatives and a private/public international company who also wants tax benefits. Hold on to your wallet and your sand. Could be gold in thar them hills.
Well, you are bordering on the real argument here, fred. The real argument is free trade vs fair trade. Sure, a company CEO can do wonders for his shareholders by using manufacturers paying substandard wages and outsourcing jobs. Eventually, though, the now unemployed working class have no money to spend on the products being manufactured so cheaply elsewhere. Without buyers, without a market, it doesn’t much matter how much margin a canny CEO can produce if no one can afford the latest widget.
A good deal is one that is good for all participants not just shareholders.
OK, I watched all boring six minutes of video. And that’s six minutes more than most people should endure of rich fat cat blowhard Olberman. The Democrat congress has the votes to change the law to BUY AMERICAN – period. Why don’t they? Maybe Olberman should do a report on greedy unions of the US and the reasons why the US can’t compete with the world in the labor market. Maybe Olberman should do a report on why corporate leaders do not have a fiduciary responsibility to employees and shareholders. And why companies should not manufacture in or purchase goods from countries where the same quality product is available at significntly lower cost. Maybe Olberman should explain to the people the numerous “Offset” agreements that exist between the US and countries that purchase many of US high priced goods (aircraft, etc.) and that companies helped by the US Chamber of Commerce have an obligation to place business in foreign countries. Then Olberman should go back to locker room interviews where he understands the game.
