There are skeptics around the nation who can’t quite believe unsung, perhaps unappreciated Oregon State (7-3, 6-1 Pacific-10 Conference) has the inside track to its first conference title since 2000 and its first Rose Bowl berth since the 1964 season.
And there may not be a single person in Los Angeles who thinks the Beavers are better than USC, even though Oregon State knocked off the then-No.1 Trojans on Sept.25.
But if OSU wins Saturday at Arizona and wins the Civil War against Oregon on Nov.29, it’s a done deal. Still, coach Mike Riley was reluctant to say the words “Rose Bowl” in his postgame interviews.
