In the first ever State playoff game for a Coquille soccer team, their opponents scored 5. The first half was notable in that both teams played air ball and bunch ball (keeping to the middle) and had an almost non existent passing game ( hard to pass when everyone is standing in the same place, or when the ball is way up in the air).
If the team is playing a sweeper, it was hard to tell ’cause the goalie was pulled out of the box more than once which allowed the other team to score. Towards the end there was some semblance of an understanding about setting up and executing plays although the Devils did not score in the second half.
Nevertheless, I was glad to be there to watch them and can see that there is some real talent on the team and positively a lot of heart. They have come a long way from obscurity and if they consistently had a decent field to play on they will do really well.
Anyway, I am proud of them…. Go Devils!
