Dr Clunie a former Coquille chiropractor left the city in part because of treatment and poor service received by the Mike Reaves led police department. Here is an excerpt from an upcoming letter to the editor.
THE OTHER REASON WE MOVED is that TWICE Dr. Clunie was accosted by one of your local police officers while he was walking home from his office. What kind of community has police officers that threaten respected citizens for
no reason other than perhaps they are bored? It reminds me of the police brutality I grew up with in a large city back east, not a small rural community that is supposedly Christian.
Personally, I am aware of several newcomers who found the city uninhabitable in no small part due to treatment by the CPD. Certainly, it is hard to encourage people to want to settle here and start businesses when the local police harass their workers for nothing more than being new to town or young adult males or not driving a gas sucking 4×4 pickup or ….
Lets keep our fingers crossed that the new chief will neither encourage or condone the stopping of new citizens on the street without good cause.
