Chemicals and pesticide use including pills supposedly to protect against chemicals now charged with causing multi symptom health issues in veterans.
“Enough studies have been conducted, and results shared, to be able to say with considerable confidence that there is a link between chemical exposure and chronic, multi-symptom health problems,” said study author Beatrice Golomb of the University of California San Diego’s school of medicine.
“Furthermore, the same chemicals affecting Gulf War veterans may be involved in similar cases of unexplained, multi-symptom health problems in the general population.”
For 16 years, the US government, the mainstream media, and a host of right wing talk shows have denied the existence of GWI. I believe many people accepted that because it was simply to horrible to believe our federal authorities would treat our troops with the callous disregard of essentially conducting the entire gulf war as a human subject battlefield experiment. We know Saddam Hussein had chemical and biological weapons because we sold Iraq the means to make them. We knew we would face them in battle there. Yet we went into that war protecting our troops with vaccines and pills developed and produced over less than a year before the war. No one knew if they would work, or that they were safe for use on humans. Turns out they weren’t, particularly when mixed with Saran gas and organophosphate insect sprays used on and around our own troops in the Gulf.
Since the war, these men and women have been treated with the ultimate disrespect of being labeled hypochondriacs and septicism isntead of the belief thay should have been accorded from the beginning. It should have been on the DOD to prove they had adqueately protected our troops instead of the troops to prove the DOD hadn’t.
It is a long tradition (since world war II) to test chemicals and drugs on the US people without their knowledge. There were 4000+ radiation tests on troops, citizens and prisoners in the US alone. This doesn’t count biowarfare or psiwar tests on the same populations. We are now the industrial nation with the highest rate of chronic illnesses and highest costs for purchasing health insurance. You think there’s a connection here?
It’s time to start taking people who claim chronic illness seriously and it’s time to investigate the the role of government sponsored cold war testing on US citizens to see if there is.
