According to a published report in a Washington newspaper, 30-year-old Adrian Elizalde was one of two soldiers killed Thursday, when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle, southeast of Baghdad.
Sgt. 1st Class Elizalde was a Special Forces engineer, assigned to a 2nd Batallion, 1st Special Forces group at Fort Lewis, Washington.
He earned a number of awards including two bronze stars and a purple heart.

The NIE, requested by the White House Iraq coordinator, Lt. Gen. Douglas E. Lute, in preparation for the testimony, met with resistance from U.S. military officials in Baghdad, according to a senior U.S. military intelligence officer there. Presented with a draft of the conclusions, Petraeus succeeded in having the security judgments softened to reflect improvements in recent months, the official said.
