Don’t know how I missed this one but Nicholas McGuffin, charged with the decade old murder of Leah Freeman, is presently housed at the Coos County Jail in Coquille, Oregon awaiting trial, May 10, 2011. Last month, December 12, in a day room scuffle, fellow inmate, Joshua R. Halaapiapi, with a history of assault whacked McGuffin in the back of the head and continued pummeling him until restrained by deputies.
No reason was provided for the assault.
McGuffin suffered minor scrapes and a bump on the back of the head. McGuffin’s trial is expected to last about nine days. The grand jury heard from more than 100 witnesses over several weeks before bringing the indictment charging McGuffin with murder.
