Today I was stopped by someone who wished to apologize to me for allowing a certain ‘older woman’ to color their opinion of me and my family. Considering I had never met this person I was very touched by the overture. Several weeks ago I had a similar experience except then I knew the person.
In each instance I know how hard it is to make amends and very much appreciate their candor. More than that, I must say that it brightens my outlook on Coquille in general, for while I know it is a select group of local citizens that delight in gossiping, even spreading false rumors, it has been the tolerance for this behavior by the rest of the population that has been the most offensive. It is a relief to know that some Coquillians do not condone that behavior after all. Hopefully, these people are more representative of Coquille values than the members of the gossip chain.
