Privatization of essential services is a huge mistake, in my opinion, we have seen what a fiasco privatizing electricity production has been…. this does not bode well. The Pennsylvania Turnpike is now controlled by a foreign company to boot!
Abertis’ winning of the biggest toll road deal in U.S. history is a major strategic victory analysts said, but added the Spanish firm’s joint bid was expensive.
Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell named the Abertis consortium, which includes Citigroup and Spain’s Criteria Caixacorp, as the preferred bidder on Monday after it offered $12.8 billion to lease the Pennsylvania Turnpike for 75 years.
Merrill Lynch analyst Paul Butler said in a note to clients that the deal was strategically positive for Barcelona-based Abertis — moving it into the attractive U.S. market and extending its average concession life to 28 years from 18.
We cannot continue to let this happen if we are to grow our own economy.
Actually, DeFazio has done a fair amount of shouting but the lobbyists are well paid for good reason. What I have learned from my trips back to DC is that many of our elected officials are not learned in the issues they vote on. Many of those that are forego long term benefits in favor of short term gratification in an effort to look good to constituents.
It is really scary, frankly, how our country is run. I wrote an article for The Sentinel today about privatization… here.
This is a typical stick it to the American taxpayer deal for sure. We paid for these roads to be built and now the federal gov and the states are up and selling public property to private corporations ….in most cases foreign corporations. Why isn’t someone in Washington shouting from the rooftops????????? Why aren’t we the taxpayers storming DC?
Who’s going to tell the Amerikan people?
Uh, Hannity? The Great American?
O’Leilly? Mr. Morality?
Limpball? Narco Junkie?
Gee, bet they don’t know, bet they don’t care.
