In a punishing and brutal editorial, the NY Times finally acknowledges that enough is enough –
It is time for the United States to leave Iraq, without any more delay than the Pentagon needs to organize an orderly exit.
The Times justifies its delay in coming to this conclusion but then goes on to excoriate the present leadership in Washington.
At first, we believed that after destroying Iraq’s government, army, police and economic structures, the United States was obliged to try to accomplish some of the goals Mr. Bush claimed to be pursuing, chiefly building a stable, unified Iraq. When it became clear that the president had neither the vision nor the means to do that, we argued against setting a withdrawal date while there was still some chance to mitigate the chaos that would most likely follow.
This is long overdue and given the Times’ complicity a la Judy Miller in the invasion in the first place almost pathetic. How many of our loved ones had to died before they finally stood up? Read it here

Very funny! I am flash gordon of course 😉
Does any one think that Bush would give in.. he loves it. I don’t have any more arguments left, so I will let you, magix, whoever yo are have the last word.
They have already gotten the same results, worse, so why not give it a try? Many of us are just tired of playing the same old game the same old way – Yes! It would make a lot of us happy if they would show they had some cajones.
I watched This week, and no, Gravel did not say how they could. What he said was, they should keep sending their resolution back every day if necessary. And of course it would get the same results. This would please you, Kate and others and that their approval rate would not be in the toilet, but congress has a lot to do , and should not waste their time just to raise their approval rate. When they get the numbers in the senate this debacle will end, and not before.
Mike Gravel described exactly how to do it this morning on This Week with Stephanopolous
Haven’t found any video yet but here is a link to his blog – http://www.gravel2008.us/?q=node/1602
This guy has heart!
I grieve along with you, Mary. On the news hour every week when they pause in silence for those who have died that week, I actually cry. No one, including you, however, has explained how exactly Reid and Pelosi could have stopped this outrage.
Buck, you are ever the optimist – but Reid and Pelosi failed this young Marine, the America people failed him and my heart aches.
I remember the dates of the men closest to my son who died in Iraq. This boys date, July 5, the day after Independence Day, will never be the same again. We should hold a special vigil.
Maybe this will jog a few more senators, to join Harry Reid when he pushes for another resolution after the July recess. Nancy has promised that the house would join too.
The Iraq war is ridiculous. I get sick every time I hear about another death, another anti-war poll…it’s been drawn out long enough and it’s time for it to end.
