To summarize, two appointed and inexperienced commissioners are now at the helm of the board and one has admitted that his family responsibilities may limit the time he has available to do his job. Perhaps he should consider doing the right thing and resigning to care for his wife and let someone who can devote full attention to the county to take over. Second, one commissioner is effectively refusing to release information the public has a legal right to and appears to have multiple conflicts of interest.

Requiring taxpayer help to become “autonomous” is kind of stretch but let’s say the center provides for a greater public good and is worth the investment. Deliberately using that taxpayer funded autonomy to deny that same public the right to bid and earn prevailing wage jobs, well that is hardly something to gloat about.

“Urban Renewal” is a great idea that has been hijacked … whereby landowners inside the District get the increment while the rest of you, pardon the expression, get the excrement. Urban renewal should be self-sustaining. There is no reason to freeze taxable assessed values of land, that does not help renewal along. The incentive to rebuild and renew comes from untaxing NEW buildings; the land is already there, and it isn’t going anywhere
