Port to announce technical advisory committee appointments

The Port is required by ordinance enacted in 1991 to form, under specific conditions, a technical advisory committee. These conditions may include the proposed LNG terminal, the channel deepening and widening to possibly allow for post-Panamax vessels or a coal export terminal. With luck the Port will share the purpose of reestablishing this committee as well as whom they have chosen to offer advice.

Is there a post-Panamax expansion planned for Port of Coos Bay?

This spring during a public comment question and answer period the Port of Coos Bay acknowledged the possibility of modifying the bay to allow for post-Panamax vessels. An EIS commissioned late in 2007 as part of the $60 million channel deepening and widening project is due next March and will contain a scenario that includes accommodating the larger container vessels and LNG tankers.

Dear Governor Kitzhaber – wake up to what is going on down here

Post Panamax vessels entering Coos Bay is a major development in export shipping. There is a huge amount of infrastructure to consider and pay for. If this is to be done, do it properly not with razzle-dazzle stories and shifting documentation. This is not only unjust and insulting to citizens and landowners but leads to poorly thought out projects hidden from criticism. It is an insult to the Oregon tradition of land use planning. The Port of Coos bay is not up to the task.
