Messerle was picked as a commissioner in an illegal executive session and one member of the selection committee was not even a resident of Coos County.

Read MoreFred Messerle had it all handed to him. When County Commissioner Nikki Whitty died, Commissioner Bob Main appointed Messerle to take Whitty’s place on the Board. That was splendidly efficient, since Messerle didn’t have to trouble himself with getting elected. There was no scrambling to get votes, no speeches, no campaign expenses, no long wait to get the election results. It was all so very pleasantly efficient.
Read MorePerhaps Main, now completing his third year, might recall that Randy Sanne started appearing at commissioner meetings a full three years ago when Nikki and Kevin were still up there. At that point running for the position of commissioner had not yet entered his head. He just knew that numerous issues needed to be addressed and not enough people were doing it.

Read MoreThe county is on the cusp of great changes, in my humble opinion, with momentum building toward letting go of old failed stereotypes and 19th century paradigms. This momentum could launch the county forward into the 22nd century or, with the wrong leadership keep it mired in the past.
Read MoreCommissioners Main and Parry selected the committee to help evaluate applicants to fill the position vacated by the late Nikki Whitty. Each chose for members of the community and then mutually agreed on a ninth ‘tie breaker’ for the nine member panel. This is a nice diverse group of people with both the workforce and women being well represented this time.
Read MoreCommissioners Main and Parry resolved today to each pick four and jointly pick one for a total of nine citizens to sit on a selection committee to review candidates to replace the late Nikki Whitty. The committee will choose up to seven of the applications for an interview process consisting of nine to ten questions, similar to how Commissioner Parry was appointed to replace the late Andy Jackson.
