Past boondoggles and familiar names

Reading Wim de Vriend’s book, The JOB Messiahs and seeing all too familiar names like Timm Slater, Jim and John and Nikki Whitty, Arne Roblan and Joanne Verger and Bill Griles associated with past failed taxpayer funded economic development schemes it is easy to see why some people would prefer the book hadn’t been written. While I am still reading the book, (backwards from today), I am astonished that some of these people still expect the public to heed their recommendations. Remember the fable about the boy who cried wolf? Well, in Coos County it should be the tale of the same people who promise jobs and never deliver.

Local legislators vote 100% with Chamber of Commerce interests

Well, if anyone had any doubts as to who our local elected officials really represent, the answer is out. Verger, Roblan, Kruse and Krieger attended video conferences held at SOCC with members of the local Bay Area Chamber of Commerce every two weeks during this legislative session according to Eric Farm of the Chamber. Farm boasts that the four legislators elected to represent all the people voted with the Chamber’s interests 100% of the time on key legislative issues including HB 2700.

Remember the $60M for Port of Coos Bay dredging?

We now know APM Terminals chose Vancouver, Canada over Coos Bay and while everyone from Ron Wyden and Peter DeFazio have ridiculed CORP for pulling out without six months notice it is hard not to speculate that CORP got a look at the August, 2007 “commercially reasonable agreement” with APM and found it lacking in substance and not consistent with what the Port had been claiming.
