Eric Farm and Eileen Ophus have yet to be confirmed by the legislature but are likely to be the latest addition to the Port of Coos Bay commission according to statements made at last night’s meeting. Blah! Look for more of the same rubber stamp approach to every development scheme proposed by port staff that we have witnessed these last several years.

What is in it for the chamber to ignore these opportunities and promote a position of weakness and fear?

Because they are a non-profit organization they do not have to list their donors allowing the businesses that funded Ken Messerle’s legislative soiree this session to remain anonymous. Nevertheless, the chamber is bought and paid for and like any hired gun is delivering on the very narrow interests of its benefactors.

Well, if anyone had any doubts as to who our local elected officials really represent, the answer is out. Verger, Roblan, Kruse and Krieger attended video conferences held at SOCC with members of the local Bay Area Chamber of Commerce every two weeks during this legislative session according to Eric Farm of the Chamber. Farm boasts that the four legislators elected to represent all the people voted with the Chamber’s interests 100% of the time on key legislative issues including HB 2700.
