Coos County deserves maturity from its elected leaders but unfortunately, Commissioner Melissa Cribbins has sunk to a low rarely seen beyond high school. Cribbins has a thread running on her personal Facebook page relating to a Don Gurney ad published last week in The Sentinel with a misspelled word. The ad is admittedly a disaster and the misspelling typical of the types of errors littering this particular paper. To be clear, Gurney had nothing to do with the ad, never vetted the ad and the ad is not paid for by the Committee to Elect Don Gurney, a point Cribbins should be experienced enough to notice. Considering Cribbins received some free advertising from Knife River on an electronic reader board last spring that met with a fair amount of derision, one would think she might appreciate the predicament.
Even if Gurney had approved the ad, however, it would not condone Cribbins’ conduct. She must be worried about John Sweet’s chances of reelection but to devolve to this level speaks volumes about her character.
This is not the first snarky remark about Gurney that Cribbins has tossed out through social media once tweeting that Gurney is the “self-professed CBWR historian” even though he’s never made the claim. Cribbins isn’t the only elected official to behave like the Plastics in Mean Girls. Our supposedly neutral head of elections, Coos County Clerk Terri Turi, (she’s responsible for counting the votes), couldn’t resist joining the pecking session with a short but nonetheless impolitic, “Oh my.”
Coquille City Councilman Loren Wiese adds his two “cents” worth
The one who takes the cake, however, is Coquile City Councilwoman Susan Heaton who succeeds in insulting just about everyone.
Several other Sweet supporters avail themselves of the opportunity to behave like high school kids, including Al Pettit for which this type of behavior is characteristic. Pettit, by the way, is rumored to be running a write-in campaign for Coos Bay City Council.
Throughout it all, our esteemed commissioner takes the time to “like” each comment because Cribbins is just so classy. Shame on her.
UPDATE: Cribbins has since hidden the offending thread linked to above. Below are screenshots taken before the thread was removed.
I agree Fred, completely. But as for her aging and learning? Ain’t gonna happen, these people never leave, they just rear another generation, a la Knutson (sp), Sauce, etc. They are smart enough to know they are big fish in a small pond, and their crap would never fly with a more informed community, they get away with this because of the ill informed population. Thank Gawd we have Dimocrats like Arnie Roblan to lead our schools out of the spiral they find themselves in. Oh, my bad, I forgot, under Roblan, we have lost how many qualified teachers, and how many schools in Coos Co. have closed? I forget sometimes and still believe we have anything close to a “Democratic” party in Oregon. We don’t need Republicans to push coal trains, and oil trains, and exploding pipelines, we have Dimocrats to do that. Starting with Peter D, shame on that one man, pimping the hundreds of millions of dollars down this Port Hole for the last ten years. He should be ashamed. My personal opinion only, of course.
Vote third party, or you vote for your own abuse. And make sure to vote for Gurney. The Dimocratic Party died years ago on this Left Coast. Stop buying it. Thanks.
Getting my daily fix of mgx before moving to Drudge and others. Thanks for the update screenshots. Interesting that Stephanie Kilmer, the general manager of radio station KDCQ, would be relying on the Urban Dictionary for definitions. Chavez, her KDCQ employee and vocal tribe member, I understand. I have the largest dictionary that Webster publishes. A single definition for sence – “a common misspelling of sense”. Perhaps all of those thousands of dollars that Sweets deep pockets backers enabled him to spend for radio advertising created silliness on Broadway in North Bend.
Coos County voters should take notice of the latest “Cribbins” catastrophe. If John Sweet is elected, the Coos County citizens are getting 4 more years of Cribbins. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that Cribbins is a lame duck if Don Gurney becomes Commissioner. Without Sweet by her side Melissa can’t continue her private agenda subsidized by her own special interest groups. Melissa needs Sweet to win so she can continue her “mean girl plastic princess” behavior. A very poor leader for Coos County Government. A vote for Don Gurney is a vote against Melissa Crubbins by the way that was an intentional misspelling) just in case she wants to run spell check.
It’s funny that Cribbins’ campaign signs and Twitter account point to a website that doesn’t work and she cut her own head off on her FB cover photo yet she feels free to criticize others for spelling errors.
Dear Mrs. Tefla Wilcut Cribbins:
This constituent (your employer) is just sitting here reading Hebrews 13 and thinking of you and your tweets and Facebook posts. I am not surprised by your disdain for constituents. When you grow up and you have a couple years real world experience you will learn that not everyone is as perfect as you and me. Not all folks can label themselves JD, DD, or PhD; like you and me. You will find that the most proficient and professional among us is often not educated with book learning. You will find that occasionally we are injured by the well intentioned acts of others – as is the case here. I recall my conglomerate president assuring me that we will overcome through normal nutrition. Of course he meant attrition. Or my executive colleague who accused the number two in the state of Israel of duplicity. He meant duplicating effort, not deception or treason. Many of us with 18 or more years education need a spell checker. Remember what you post today will survive long after you are through being a commissioner and you are seeking employment elsewhere. I hope that you will be able to locate more in the next Sentinel issue with spelleen and punkchooashun errors for you to bring to the attention of your followers. Frankly, I would prefer that you spend less time proof reading and more time attempting to solve the problems of the county.
Sincerely,
I could not believe her ‘wall of shame’ on a personal/public site, are these local ‘public servants’ so damned arrogant they don’t even care that We The People
can read too? I was shocked to see Turri and the rest participating in Mean Girls
Behavior, not that I’m surprised, but in front of the entire public? It’s an insult to every voter in Coos County. And the very reason We The People must clean house now !
It may be unfair to paint everyone with the same brush but if this is the caliber of people backing John Sweet, were doomed.
