No doubt we will be seeing and hearing a lot rumors over the coming weeks but as the community enhancement scheme proposed by the Port of Coos Bay reacts to public outcry tracking each and every one down may be pointless for now. Nonetheless, one rumor has it that the cabal are considering doing away with the waterfront mitigation aspect of the plan and instead divvying up the 25% intended for the Bayfront Investment Corporation between the four enterprise zone sponsors; the Port of Coos Bay, Coos Bay, North Bend and Coos County. Captain Jack Sparrow and Will TurnerIn other words, if the rumor is true, they are reapportioning property taxes into two districts that otherwise wouldn’t see any money and taking it away from the smaller taxing districts like North Bend Rural Fire. (Do they just not like the fire department or is it that they cannot abide the fact that CB and NB aren’t entitled to any of that property tax revenue?)

Apparently, reapportioning taxes can be accomplished using a state sanctioned economic incentive program without a vote of the people. If it is legal for the sponsoring districts to use their sponsorship to commandeer revenue they otherwise would not be entitled to it it certainly doesn’t seem ethical.
