Huffington Post is reporting that Oregon’s south coast is soon to be the scene of gala event sponsored by The Heritage Action for America “to bring together conservative leaders and members of Congress with wealthy donors to ‘strategize about the future of our country while navigating the challenging links of Bandon Dunes Golf Resort’s signature courses.’ An individual package covering all expenses for the Oct. 14-17 event costs $15,000; two people can attend for $25,000.”
Hosting the event is Michael Keiser, the owner of Bandon Dunes and a major Republican Party donor. In the 2012 election Keiser gave so much money to GOP candidates and party committees that he actually exceeded the legal limit for total contributions in a two-year election cycle. He is currently under a Federal Election Commission investigation, along with dozens of other donors, for excessive campaign giving.
According to Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter David Cay Johnston, Bandon Dunes is also a significant recipient of government subsidies, something that Heritage Action generally opposes. The expansion of a nearby airport that serves as the landing pad for thousands of golfers each year was financed by “a tax paid on all commercial airline tickets and state bonds backed by revenue from the Oregon lottery, which is heavily used by the state’s poor,” Johnston reported in 2007.
If you would like to welcome these people to Coos County and thank them for screwing around with your veterans benefits and closing the national parks and shutting down emergency assistance and food inspections and other “non essential” services, the Dollar Store is selling all kinds of great Halloween props, pitchforks, horns and zombie masks.
Let’s show these people how much we appreciate them.
My I wish I could be a caddy & clean their shoes & wash their balls for them…
My God people are you nuts.
They are the job creators for goodness sake!
Why one day you too could inherit money, buy a politician and use taxpayers’ money to finance a golf course and wipe out your competition.
The American dream baby.
Kneel to the job creators and be darn grateful they allow you to do that.
Come on Wassup, grow a pair. We The People have been grabbing our ankles every time “jobs” are dangled in front of us. I’m tired of paying for rich mens’ folly Wassup, you keep on keeping on, don’t let facts like cost-ratios keep you from fearing your masters!!
Meet and greet them at the airport, where most of them see all they are going to see of Coos County until they step into their chauffeured vans and are whisked off to Bandon. They are too afraid of We The People to even announce they’re little retreat at the expense of every tax paying citizen of this nation. I owe the bastads nothing more. I pay for the monstrous airport so their delicate sensibilities are impressed by what we have done for their pleasure. Not one other true reason for that second airport terminal. Not one. Just Bandon Dunes.
I agree with you that my brother and sister card carrying vets who were promised much are in fact being treated most shabbily; by the VA, by the cabinet, by congress, and by Nobama! However, is it possible that among the 1% ers there may be a person seeking a new location for a factory who may say screw it if greeted with pitch forks?
OMG! Yes, by all means lets genuflect when they grace our fair county with their presence despite their greed and self interest and disdain for the common man because, gosh oh golly, one of them might want to setup shop here. If that happened, it would only happen if the common man was willing to pick up the tab in the form of tax subsidies and incentives.
Halloween time, Dollar Stores in NB and CB are selling devil pitchforks, plastic swords and all pirate gear one would need. From the airport to either BDunes driveways on 101, what fun it would be. methinks beggars in rags and tatters with begging cups would work well too. This is a once in a lifetime folks, we shouldn’t miss it !
Sure quiet about this, in fact Heritage took it off their site, but reports say it’s still a “go”.
Shame to let them enjoy Oregon when so many of the poor in Oregon are suffering and will suffer more because these 1%’ers have shut down the gubernut.
