The economic blockade against Wikileaks must be lifted says Iceland top court.
The supreme court confirmed today the Reykjavik district court’s ruling that Valitor has to open for the payment gateways used by DataCell and WikiLeaks. If Valitor does not comply they have to pay 800.000 ISK in fines everyday until the gateways are open.
And from the Wikileaks news site
The Icelandic Supreme Court upheld the decision that Valitor (VISA Iceland) must resume payments to WikiLeaks, otherwise face a daily fee of $6,830 beginning May 10. WikiLeaks called the victory the “most important to date” against the banking blockade, with Julian Assange commenting, “We thank the Icelandic people for showing that they will not be bullied by powerful Washington backed financial services companies like Visa”. WikiLeaks also brought attention to those who are imprisoned for protesting the banking blockade.
Beat the Blockade, a site which helps raise funds for WikiLeaks, announced they will be starting a new fundraising campaign next week “involving an event in Sydney, Australia and online”.
Meanwhile, some media are avoiding the topic entirely.
