Cabal – a group of people united in some close design together, usually to promote their private views or interests, often by intrigue.
Observing the cabal of arrogant “business leaders” known loosely as the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce and SCDC and the Port of Coos Bay and following its secret meetings and almost rote, text book strategies trying to convert public sentiment supporting LNG exports somehow reminded me of Colin Powell, (whom I still like despite of allowing himself to be used to sell non-existent WMDs to the American people), during the first Gulf War. Powell was being badgered mercilessly by an unrelenting press desperate for details about the military’s plans for invading Iraq that Saddam Hussein would no doubt have loved to have heard on the nightly news. Clearly exasperated as he was chased down the hall after leaving a JSOC meeting, Powell turned to the press and offered them a basic course outline of War 101.
“First you secure the perimeter”, he offered as if he were talking to a classroom of children. “Then you cut off supply lines and take out communications. Next you breach the interior and neutralize key enemy military assets…” What he didn’t get to that day in this paraphrased primer on war is the second phase of an occupation which typically includes psychological operations. Psyops as they are called “…are planned operations to convey selected information and indicators to audiences to influence their emotions, motives, objective reasoning, and ultimately the behavior of governments, organizations, groups, and individuals”. The key here being the conveyance of selective information, (as in information that is false by virtue of omission), in order to carry out the self serving objectives of the cabal which is in turn willingly and easily manipulated by foreign consultants paid for by Canadian owned Jordan Cove LNG.
Right now, Coos County working class citizens are under full scale attack by hired operatives like Pilot Strategies in Portland which amongst other services helps “build support for your business, engage the media and public with a positive story…” Basically, a handful of locals possessed of such enormous hubris that they meet in secret because they believe only they have the power to fix Coos County even though many of these same individuals have had a hand in every multimillion dollar disaster in the last twenty years are colluding with hired guns from as far away as Washington DC to sell the average citizen on liquefied natural gas. Don’t be surprised if you see helicopters dropping leaflets along with food care packages soon.
Part of psyops is to control the narrative and to that end the cabal has initiated the local bullhorn editor into its fold singing. (literally), praises to the latest economic savior, LNG. As part of controlling the narrative cabal matron, Sandy Messerle has tried to silence the voices of volunteers manning the cameras for the local public access station and the station’s CEO, FRank Williams was one of those invited to attend the secret psyops strategy meeting last week and who passively participated in the eviction of Wim de Vriend.
Along with controlling the media it is necessary to infiltrate positions of influence through organizations like community action, city counsels and port and county commissions. While I had been hopeful of trusting both John Sweet and Melissa Cribbins to make decisions without regard to influence from the cabal despite their willingness to accept campaign contributions from the cabal backed CCAP I am less confident each day that this is possible. Both commissioners are deeply enmeshed in the cabal culture that condones dishonest psyop tactics and are ideologically and rhythmically aligned with the public front, the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce.
The best way to combat psychological operations is to stay informed, question all claims made without valid citation and demand the media do its job properly.
We need to get out from under the Governor Tzar system. This county needs to get our F’ing vote back!
Amen!
Al,
I figured it out, it’s low “T” isn’t it.
There is just something obscure and irrelevant about selling motorcycle parts in Coos County Oregon, or anywhere else for that matter
Considering everything thats happening around us, your life’s not nearly as bad as you’d like anyone to believe, so buck up and lend a hand. Or, just spend the rest of your miserable existence in continued obscurity and irrelevance.
Gives the chamber, development agencies, Port, World, al, et.al convenient targets to finger point and blame for tax dollars being on nonsensical “plans” does it? People here are the problem?
Someone’s veneer of honesty is getting rather thin when plans are kept secret from the public and meetings are held behind closed doors by the “in” crowd. I would have to guess you have someone else doing the heavy lifting with your business if you think the million$ wasted on bogus projects and shipping sticks out at million$ per rail car makes any kind of economic sense.
This area was geographically suitable for only one, one-way, water shipping business and it’s done. It’s kaput, over, gone, we used it up. LNG is only going to go to where it makes sense, and this isn’t the place. BC, the Gulf, the Northeast are much better choices. It’s business, stop making it personal, wake up. If you want to make a positive change then help get our citizen voice and vote back in this county for our port commissioners. We’re not to blame.
Good lord, Themguys. Your depth of despair knows no bounds.
No “depth of despair” little fellow. Just sick and tired of you and your buddies taking advantage of good working people. Promising them the world when you know it’s just more bullshit. Not despair at all. Just sick and tired of you snake oil salesmen thinking you got something of value. You do not. You have failed. Discussion over. You had forty years of your crap, you failed miserably. Time to turn it over to people who can move the county forward, not backwards as you have done. Where’s your argument little one? You tried, you failed for forty years.
End of story. Tell me where I’m wrong little feller.
Sorry, aghast, I just can’t buy into the woe-is-us attitude, because that’s never going to put money into the County coffers or bring jobs to the area. Regardless of the number of set-backs, disappointments and failures there are people in this town who will never quit. And because of those people, we WILL get this turned around. In the early 90’s one of the most prominent venture capital firms in Silicon Valley invested in over 300 companies in a single year. Over ninety percent of their market equity that year came from one – one – single investment/company. We can’t control the feds, the state, dismiss regulations, control investment money, manipulate the markets or control time, so there is nothing about this process that is guaranteed. But we can keep trying.
No al, “we” can’t keep trying your tried and failed, and tried and failed pipe dreams any longer.
We want a place to live that is varied and rich with young people and their ambitions. You have proven your inability to move the county forward, you’ve had all the time needed. We won’t put up with any more of your BS. And that is all it is. A couple of rich guys and the rest of you Fredos fighting to Be Somebody has worked well for the few who run the Port, but Coos County is the butt of all jokes Oregon. You failed, and you continue to fail and you drag all of us down with you. The young families here deserve more respect that you clowns have shown them. They love it here and should have jobs to stay here and raise their families here. YOU HAVE FAILED ! Pack up and shut up al, along with your co-horts and your new ruby slippered star and her camera man.
Why, you ask, Themguys? Because, my dear, rarely is anything accomplished by sitting around on one’s ample backside wasting the day finding a million reasons why something can’t be done. To the contrary: anything is possible with a positive attitude. And, since no one expects you to contribute to our turn-around you’re stuck with the people who are trying. So show a little respect for those who are, because that list is short and to the best of my knowledge, it doesn’t include your name.
I bet you watch music video with the red heels over and over and chant “There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home…”
Please stop helping, Al, the county cannot afford your expensive pipe dreams any longer
This is why Al and pals must operate in secret and pretend to be learned businessmen and developers. Their schemes cannot withstand the harsh light of day
I am not a registered democrat, so I was unaware that MarkM was made chair of the local democrat party. This will push the crats further towards the same side of the table that seats republicans. This will not be good for the party. The local party leaders will be seen as blue-dogs, which they are. They like the word progressive, but they are stuck in the same gear as the republicans when it comes to representing the fossil fuel industries.
If your a democrat and don’t want to see your party go further south, then your going to have to do something about it. You could quit or raise some hell and hope the effort re-aligns the path the party is taking.
They didn’t get coal so now they are doubling down on LNG and they want to have the endorsement of the democratic party, to back up what their elected reps have been doing all along, without their members having a say.. They’re all out of the closet now.
The word for today: “cabal”. Observing the cabal of arrogant NON-business leaders known loosely as the “Anti’s” and following its secret meetings to organize the next protest or to determine who will be the next target of ridicule for attempting to improve our struggling and socially ill community (see today’s front page of The World).
This community WILL turn the corner – but because of the people who never give up and keep hammering away at the mountains of regulatory obstacles. Kudos to each and every one of them.
And why would any thoughtful person WANT to “see the front page” of the industry rag who supports every pipe dream that walks by? You boys have had forty years al, and we’re still stuck in the mud. You’ve had enough time to turn things around, but you haven’t, and you won’t because there’s too much money being made by a core group of Welfare Kings who suck from the Federal and State Teats, not to mention taking dues from unsuspecting small business people who come here and lose everything trying to provide services to others. You have failed, it’s time to turn around Coos County, and it’s not at the end of that long hose you’ve used for forty years. Enough is enough.
Mark McKelvey acting as the enforcer for unions in Coos County, huh? Wow, what a fit, Mark M. has absolutely no moral compass, he spins like a damned top, my opinion only of course. He doesn’t know who or what he is anymore. But then, perhaps that is the one prerequisite to be a dimocrat in Coos County. It ain’t even close folks. I still hear Mark’s voice, pleading with others to “come join the dimocrats and change it from within”. Ha! Skippy, just like Holly did? What a wanker M M has turned out to be, but that hasn’t really been a surprise to me. Mark needs to get a job, he’s obviously got waaaay too much time on his hands.
Thank you to you all !!!!
Let me just say, without an honest press, it’s almost impossible to move forward out of this sewer these chamber folks have put us in. The World REFUSES to print even the slightest bit of truthiness if it gives any of their pipe dreams any push back. They absolutely refuse to be an honest purveyor of the important news we must have to move forward. Editors come and go, and still Clark Wallworth continues his propaganda, pushing high school culinary menues and high school sports.
Get the word out about this very blog, get the locals who crow for the Rusted Railroad’s return, then stating, “as long as it isn’t using public money” these people have lived here their entire lives, and they haven’t heard the truth about these repeat blunders these folks drag us all into.
If I were paying dues to this Chamber? I’d stop immediately:
Why pay for your own abuse? Check out how many small businesses have folded downtown Coos Bay, all the while the Chamber dances away your future.
It’s time to stop the support for anyone enabling the continued funding of the Port to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars. We cannot afford their folly any longer. Peter DeFazio is the chief enabler, down to Roblan sponsoring legislation to take already agreed upon retirement funds from retirees. Clark refuses to print it. Look what Florence and Bandon have done, and communities all up and down the coastline. Then you pull into Coos Bay and see the weeds and the rusted railroad, and you continue on to Bandon, a quaint little village who welcomes outsiders. Compare our waterfront to Florence or Bandon and then thank a Chamber Member for keeping us rusted and dismal.
I understand the star of the ruby slipper video attended last night’s DCC meeting with her cameraman in tow. Also in attendance was one of the chorus members, Melissa Cribbins
I’ve recently met this Psyops monster. He showed up as the Chair of the
Coos County Democrats, Mark McKelvey, telling me repeatedly that I needed to
tone down my opposition to the Jordan Cove LNG proposal. His argument was
that since I was a candidate for the SWOCC Board of Education and LNG was
not an issue for that position, it would be off-topic. Fair enough. Then,
imagine my surprise when I discovered an email from Mr. McKelvey to Ray
Bucheger (the fancy D. C. lobbyist) and Chuck Deister (the cabal brain from
Pilot Strategies) characterizing me as ” . . .Holly Stamper, a local
anti-LNG activist . . .” and passing them comments I had made on the current
LNG resolution passed in 2008 for cabal rebuttal.
Mark has also suggested that if I don’t tone it down, my union endorsements
for the SWOCC Board will be rescinded. That’s odd, since I’ve publicly
opposed Jordan Cove LNG since 2006, and served on a credit union board with
the President of the ILWU since 2002. It’s not like the unions didn’t know
my position on LNG BEFORE they endorsed me. My late husband, Harry Stamper
(longshoreman), even wrote a CD full of songs opposed to Jordan Cove LNG.
The message from the cabal is that you should support LNG or SHUT UP. If
you don’t SHUT UP, the cabal will retaliate in a personal way.
He likes to pretend he knows something. Give no credence to what the doosh says.
Good investigative journalism Mary. Too bad the other local medias don’t have the talent to dig into things a little deeper.
Thanks, Dian, but The World at least has the talent it just lacks the inclination… particularly when its editor is literally singing the tune – http://vimeo.com/37843447
