Coos County is typically engaged in the political process. In 2004 and 2008, almost 85% of registered voters cast their ballots exceeding the state average of 71.9% or national level around 62%. The county is on track, as of last night, at 67.07% to continue the trend into the final day. We will know tonight if the unprecedented spending in local and national races motivates voters or turns them off.
Five Thirty Eight, Nate Silver’s Political Calculus is projecting a 91.6% probability Obama will win the electoral college vote and 50.9% of the popular vote. All those projections mean nothing, however, if people do not vote.
Based upon the very unscientific MGx poll, Bob Main will retain position one with 57% and Randy Sanne will receive 29% as a write-in choice and 14% to Fred Messerle.
If position two poll results were to come true, Randy Sanne will be our next commissioner receiving 52% as a write-in and another 5% going to other write-ins like Larry Van Elsberg, Geno Landrum and Rickey Wiley. John Sweet has 29% and 3% to Tim Bishop.
Don Gurney leads position three with 79% to 17% for Melissa Cribbins.
It should be noted that a similar poll has been running at Coos County Watchdog for much longer and has dramatically different results.
The important thing is to vote, your county and your country need you to vote! Election results will be available at the county website shortly after 8PM this evening – Election Results. MGx will also post results as soon as they are available.
