County Counsel Oubonh White is leaving the post. Last week according to county staff, White circulated an email that she will be leaving her position. If a response to my email requesting a date her resignation becomes effective arrives, I will update the post.
It’s not surprising. During my time as Roadmaster, there were a number county attorneys I worked with. They were mostly young and looking for training ground to practice their skills and gain experience. Once they gained that experience, two to four years, they were gone. County attorneys have much more influence on elected officials than the general public knows. They are supposed to be the watch dogs, informing commissioners about the laws and what they can do legally to protect the public’s interest. Most newly elected officials are ignorant to the laws that regulate county government, so they rely on council to direct them. With each new attorney, there’s a learning curve and sometimes mistakes are made.
I can stop the Novena and save the candles. I understand that her underling is twice as capable as she is. Who will be doing all of the talking during commissioner meetings now?
