Just a quick something to chew on while I am gathering more information. Several local companies provide material, maintenance and services for the county incinerator. Converting the facility to a transfer station will redirect local dollars to out of county landfills with no corresponding investment in return. Small local companies like Koontz Machine and Welding and parts and fuel suppliers will see their sales drop and may have to lay off workers if the site becomes a transfer station.
It is unfortunate that the county chooses to give one company preferential treatment by not enforcing an agreement while damaging other companies by not properly maintaining a public asset.
Hey thanks, Gmick. There is a faction that firmly believes privatizing government will somehow be better for the public. What they usually don’t factor into the equation is that the private sector must add profit into their fee structure whereas the public sector does not. For the public not to see an increase in the cost of services the private sector must pay lower wages and hire less competent staff. Lower overall wages in the area translates to a downswing in local spending. Essential services should be delivered to the people without a profit incentive because it is always the people, not the shareholder, who ends up picking up the tab.
I cant believe what the BOC is doing. This in the long run will cost the Tax Payers of Coos County more Money. I for one will not Vote to Elect any of them. I retired from the Road Dept as the way they were handling things. John Rowe has no clue as to how run the Road Dept . And the commissioners Don’t have a clue. I thought it was Bab when Stufflebean was there, but seems to just getting worse. They will be putting some people out of work, and I think they want to Privatize all of the County. Well Just venting here, and Thank you Mary for Keeping us Informed. You for sure are a go getter. Take care.
