Main and I haven’t seen eye to eye much lately but I definitely appreciate his dissenting vote when the City of Bandon asked for a handout from Coos County citizens to develop a speculative brewery and cheese factory. Absent any contracts the city is engaging in the all too familiar policy, “build it and they will come”.

Commissioner Fred Messerle believes that even though the City of Bandon wants to use County money the board shouldn’t be telling Bandon what to do or worry about under funding county services.

I am with you on abolishing urban renewal districts and enterprise zones. A journalist friend told me that if you want to dig up dirt, corruption or evidence of abuse, look into local urban renewal and other special taxing districts. They always deliver

Non-profits must get a governing body to partner with their request for public funding. Thats how they all must do it. The flood gates are still wide open, with Messerle in charge, with SCDC right at his side.
In other words, Messerle has made the county passive investors in whatever scheme Bandon wants to undertake
