Once the video of today’s meeting is available I will elaborate on this quick recap. In short, the job creation numbers and revenue numbers presented to Congress regarding management of the Coos Bay Wagon Road lands are not hard numbers and are still being developed by Coquille Tribe consultants. Further, our paid commissioners are not engaging in any independent analysis or due diligence on our behalf but relying entirely upon the tribe’s research.
Commissioner Parry revealed more of his dark side today, blowing up at Randy Sanne for pointing out that the county is not as broke as some would have the public believe. Bob “analysis won’t do it” Main is reported to have repeatedly interrupted Sanne and made an effort to belittle me for bringing the county’s investment funds to their attention at the last BOC meeting.
Main also made a point of making sure that the audience was aware Sanne is running for commissioner, apparently implying Sanne is using the comment period as a campaign pulpit. Last I checked Main had not filed for reelection but I think it would be fair to ask if he too is using his office for campaign publicity.
Following our first committee meeting, Mr. Sanne spoke to me for several minutes about this very topic. According to Mr. Sanne the County has millions of dollars of unallocated funds. I would be very interested in hearing details about Mr. Sanne’s interpretation of the County’s financials. Where, exactly, do surplus funds exist? Why do they exist? And how would he utilize those dollars to close the looming budget gap – if there is a gap. Thank you.
