The Obama administration continues to disappoint as diplomatic cables released by WikiLeaks revealed how the US manipulated Copenhagen climate accord. Democracy Now reports from Cancún at COP-16

The cables show how the United States sought dirt on nations opposed to its approach to tackling global warming, how financial and other aid was used by countries to gain political backing, and how the United States mounted a secret global diplomatic offensive to overwhelm opposition to the “Copenhagen Accord.” We speak to Bolivia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Pablo Solón. Several of the cables addressed Bolivia’s opposition to the U.S.-backed accord.

The talks are not going well and there is no commitment from top emitting countries, the US prime amongst them to reduce global temperatures by even 1 degree. Previously, it was feared the US presence at the talks would impair accord. The Wikileaks cable revelations confirm the US are not bent on a solution that requires a radical reduction in carbon emissions.
