While I haven’t seen it yet there is a half page ad in both The World and Bandon Western World from Oregon Resources Corp thanking ‘everyone’ for supporting strip mining or words to that effect. Two half page ads… maybe that explains the artful interpretation of qutoes from people like Jody McCaffree and forester, Bob Laport (so far I have heard of no clarification at The World).
As I wrote yesterday there is a trend in some areas on the part of media and established big businesses to omit news not favorable to the biggest ad purchasers. Free and open press is critical to a functioning democracy and necessary for a people to have adequate information to participate in their own governance.
Am hammered today and also want to spend some time with my mountain bike but there is a lot of information coming this way and I will try to disseminate within the next couple of days.
Not sure it would do much good but it might be appropriate to advise Lee Enterprises the local publisher editor mocks his own readers. Worse, they are educated readers with a higher median income than he has, not that that should matter.
The World Newspaper is all about ORC and pushing propaganda. Clark must really enjoy the ORC camp. They’ve finished roasting the marshmallows (me) and the zippers are closed on the sleeping bags. Night Night Clarkie. Night Night Dan.
What’s the real issue?
Jeers for the political theatrics taking over the chromite mining debate. On the other hand, people who print T-shirts and campaign buttons are experiencing an economic stimulus. That’s worth something, C&J supposes.
This today from Clark and his crew. This added to four other pro-mine,pro-airport,pro-train to nowhere, pro-Port in todays’ paper. It’s kind of like saying to his readers, “to hell with you citizens who’s property will be damaged by this mine”. Well Clark, some people don’t like it when foreign business interests shit in their back yard. Then proceed to propose giving up , with your urging and praise, their right to know what they have in the sands of Seven Devils. Obviously shame doesn’t work, he has none. I’d sure like to know exactly WHO Clark is pimping for, we all suspect, but maybe Clark will come forward and tell us who is running his show at The World, if it is just Clark, then he needs to step up and tell his readers he is responsible. In either case,it shows he doesn’t know or give a dam that he is not performing the duty of a news organization. I hate to admit it but I got so angry reading todays’ World. He not only ignored calls for the truth, he stepped up and said clearly and succinctly “screw you taxpayers, I’m in bed with the Big Guys”. And I will print whatever they tell me to print.
I just hope citizens are reading your blog, it is the only news outlet with the cajones to print actual truthful news, not faux/advertising/cloaked in a header that says: “News”.
Ha
A half-page ad isn’t a bribe.
It’s a thank you note .
I’ve been listening to Ed Schultz 1340 am. He has miners calling in from all over the country. They are blowing the whistle on the mine owners, and almost every caller speaks about the local press being controlled by dirty company practices. It’s appalling that local blogs and am programming is now the news outlet. IT MAKES ME FURIOUS TO SEE IT GOING ON HERE. These placements and flat ignoring important issues to the local folks.
We seem to have lost ethics along with local control.
Looke E Here !!! The News from The Highest Bidder? I think so.
