There really does seem to be a lot of the ‘pot calling the kettle black’ in this town. Not only do we have the likes of Mike Reaves, et al, laden with their own dirty closets questioning the character of Mayor Britton but we have ‘anonymous’ posters making slanderous claims against city council candidates they don’t like.
In this week’s paper is a letter that appears to make the assumption that the candidates (all adults) are not already aware of the commitment they are volunteering for.
Being a council person requires time and a four-year commitment to the well-being of the city. Are you financially stable, able to devote the time regardless of your job and family, to devote to this undertaking?
The author also appears to imply that only people of means should volunteer for public service. How pompous and how undemocratic. What would Abe Lincoln think?
Coquille is a working class community and any attempts to view it as anything else is silly. Nevertheless, there are a handful of Coquillians that regard themselves as at the top of the pile… the elite working class, as it were… sort of the leaders of the ‘hairy unwashed’… Real leaders are meant to guide and serve their community, not look down their noses at it.
I have to laugh at all those “glass houses” folks who have so much in their own pasts!
I too have seen people hiding behind the anonymity of the blogs to spew baseless accusations. They appear so smug in their timid little dark world.
