Had an opportunity to meet the candidates for police chief this evening and like three, in particular. Two of the candidates, one from Colorado and the other from Nevada are actually retiring from other positions and view the job as a potential retirement job. The gentleman from Colorado is well educated and had taken the time to walk around the community, sit in the restaurants and chat with the locals.
A third candidate from Arizona, also well educated is younger and very animated in discussion and well versed in varied management techniques and theories. Presumably, being younger he may stay on longer as a police chief than the retirees. That said, perhaps it isn’t a good idea to retain the same leadership for an extended period of time as we have seen from the past.
Tomorrow each candidate will submit to interviews by the ‘select’ hiring committee while the interested public gets to observe.
