Last night I attended a meeting in Coos Bay relating to ways in which to support local business and thereby keep our dollars local. An organization called Sustainable Connections in Bellingham, Washington has implemented a buy local program with positive results.
Locally, we have an organization forming which is endeavoring to do the same. CREAM or the Coquille River Economic and Agricultural Movement. The hope is to stimulate the local economy by investing in our local economy by purchasing fresh food and other goods and services.
My business plan is built around providing living wage manufacturing jobs here in the South Coast as opposed to contracting with a manufacturer in China or Guadalajara. Additionally, we hope to take that one step further and produce energy locally. This allows us to export less money out of the county and benefit the environment as well.
Am posting this clip from the Colbert Report because it touches on these matters, humorously of course.
