The Coos County grand jury will convene two days of hearings beginning in approximately three weeks, presumably to determine if criminal charges should be brought against officers Bryant and Webley. Both officers were involved in an arrest which resulted in the broken neck of Carl Foster, now a quadriplegic. Additionally, Dian has a post up discussing the possibility of video cameras for all officers.
The city liability insurance provider may demand that the city undertake measures of this type considering the high number of complaints coupled with the Carl Foster incident. Possibly a Homeland Security grant can be obtained to pay for the cost of these cameras though these grants are not specifically intended to protect the citizens from their own police department. Nevertheless, the cost to the city for not heeding the warnings last summer are going to monumental and cameras will be a minor expense in comparison.
