The Pentagon will be releasing a report tomorrow detailing the increased suicide rate amongst troops deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.
The report, obtained by The Associated Press ahead of its scheduled release Thursday, found there were 99 confirmed suicides among active duty soldiers during 2006, up from 88 the previous year and the highest since the 102 suicides in 1991.
“Iraq was the most common deployment location for both (suicides) and attempts,” the report said.
To the minority that still support this occupation I ask – HOW DID YOUR MAGNET SUPPORT THE TROOPS? We have to fight for these kids. We cannot continue to sit idly by while they suffer in Iraq. The quagmire in Iraq IS NOT what they signed up for! Write your US representatives.
(hat tip excuuuuuuse me!)
Very well then its a date! Tomorrow. Lunch.
you realize, magix, that this is about the only way I get to carry on a conversation with you. You sound very interesting, I’d like to meet you sometime, and that means sometime before the 25th century.
Well, I am certainly hoping you are right and that our descendents will look back kindly upon our efforts when we finally meet in the 25th century buck rogers!
yeh I know, my comment was just bull shit. I just wanted to get your attention. I do believe that this occupation is about to fall apart, and if the Republican senators don’t end it in September to save there ass, the president will have to
Aye, it has been a well known fact for some time but I am not sure of the motivation of the Pentagon for acknowledging it. A source I have in the Pentagon has suggested, albeit cautiously, that a mutiny has been afoot for some time. By mutiny, I mean that learned and caring military leaders have had enough of the careless swagger jeopardizing the lives of our troops. Read ‘Soldiers in Revolt’ by David Cortwright and you will be amazed how much troop revolt had to do with ending the Vietnam war
We’ve known about the high suicide rate for a long time, I wonder why the pentagon is just now releasing this. I believe that this administration is about to scale down the war, and start bringing troops home by next spring, to make it easier for Republicans next election. Could this be the first step to soften the image
